Paros has been celebrated since ancient times for its pure white marble, prized by the great sculptors of Greece. The ancient quarries at Marathi can still be visited, and in the mountain village of Lefkes, old marble-paved paths wind between white houses and flowering courtyards. From Lefkes, the ancient Byzantine footpath leads gently through olive groves and terraced hills toward the sea, one of the most beautiful walks in the Cyclades. The island’s towns are full of character. In Parikia, the main port, the 4th-century Panagia Ekatontapiliani, known as the “Church of a Hundred Doors,” is one of the oldest churches in Greece. In the north, the fishing harbour of Naoussa glows at sunset, with colourful boats, small tavernas and the ruins of a Venetian castle at the water’s edge. Along the coast, beaches such as Kolymbithres, with its smooth granite rock formations, and Golden Beach offer something for every mood, while a short boat ride leads to the neighbouring island of Antiparos and its famous cave. In summer, the Valley of Butterflies becomes a green, shady haven filled with fluttering wings. On Paros, wellness comes naturally. The bright Cycladic light lifts the spirit, the summer breeze keeps the air fresh, and the clear Aegean invites a daily swim. Mornings can begin with yoga facing the sea, followed by a walk along the marble paths or a slow swim in a quiet cove.
