Location
Mykonos, Greece
On the hillside of Kanalia, just above Mykonos Town, Island Winds Villa looks out over the whitewashed rooftops of Chora and the deep blue Aegean beyond. It’s one of the island’s most convenient locations, a few minutes from the town’s lanes, beaches and harbour, yet high enough to feel peaceful and private, with the sea breeze drifting across the terraces. Mykonos has long been known as the “island of the winds.” For centuries, its famous windmills used the steady breeze to grind grain for passing ships, and today they still stand on the hill above Little Venice, where the island gathers each evening to watch the sun go down. Below, Mykonos Town remains the heart of the Cyclades: a maze of white lanes, blue doors, bougainvillea and small chapels, home to Petros the pelican, the island’s beloved mascot, and to some of Greece’s most stylish boutiques and restaurants. Beyond town, the island reveals a quieter, more traditional side. The village of Ano Mera keeps its peaceful square and 16th-century monastery, while the south coast beaches of Psarou, Platis Gialos and Ornos offer clear water and long lunches by the sea. From the Old Port, a short boat ride leads to Delos, the sacred island of Apollo and one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. On Mykonos, wellness comes naturally. The cooling summer meltemi keeps the air fresh, the bright Cycladic light lifts the spirit, and the clear sea invites a daily swim. Mornings can begin with yoga on the terrace as the town wakes below, followed by local Mykonian flavours such as kopanisti cheese, wild herbs, honey and almond sweets. In the evening, the villa’s private hammam offers deep relaxation before dinner, as the lights of Chora begin to sparkle across the bay.
