Location
Tavira, Algarve, Portugal
Every winter, the hills around Tavira turn white and pink with almond blossoms, a tradition born from an old Algarve legend of a Moorish king who planted thousands of almond trees so his homesick northern bride could see "snow" from her window. Blossom Lagoon Villa carries that story of care and beauty into every stay, set on four hectares of fragrant gardens inside the protected Ria Formosa Natural Park, where the soft sea air and gentle Algarve sun invite the body to slow down and the mind to rest. Beyond the gardens, the authentic Algarve unfolds at an easy pace. Small boats cross the lagoon to Tavira Island, with its long, unspoiled beaches, and to Barril Beach, where rows of old anchors recall the region's tuna-fishing past. Nearby fishing villages keep their traditions alive: Santa Luzia, known as Portugal's octopus capital, Cabanas with its waterfront seafood tables, and clifftop Cacela Velha, overlooking the Ria. In Tavira itself, whitewashed houses, church bell towers and a historic bridge over the Gilão river frame lively market mornings and long lunches of fresh fish and cataplana. Then it's back to the villa for sunset by the pool, as flamingos and herons glide across the still waters of the Ria.
